In 2022, we helped Volkswagen Group’s ŠKODA AUTO to put an end to protracted disputes over the use of the ŠKODA designation, which the Czech car maker had been involved in with other companies linked to the history of the Škoda plant in Plzeň, where trains and trams were manufactured. In terms of its significance and value, it was one of the biggest intellectual property cases in the history of the Czech Republic.
As legal advisors, we assisted in the settlement of all ŠKODA trademark disputes and helped draft an agreement under which our client, ŠKODA AUTO, became the owner of the trademarks worldwide.
We also provided all other related services in the areas of M&A, intellectual property, tax, competition, and corporate law. More than 20 colleagues, led by partners Jan Šturm, Jan Koval and Ivan Rámeš, worked on the case.
This was a significant step building on the rich history of ŠKODA automotive and an important milestone for the future development of this leading Czech company on local as well as global markets.
