We like doing projects with an overlap – we help develop culture, education and architecture through legal advice.
Together with our clients, we bring to life major cultural and infrastructure projects with a long-term impact on society; we organise architectural competitions for public and private clients. Our team, led by partner Josef Hlavička and managing associate Kamila Kulhánková, coordinated, for example, the international architectural competition for the Vltava Philharmonic, which will become a new symbol of Prague, and the competition for the reconstruction of the Cibulka estate for the Vlček Family Foundation, where the Children’s Palliative Care Centre is to be established. We were also instrumental in organising the architectural competition for the first terminal of the Prague East high-speed railway, a promise of a faster and more modern form of public transport in the Czech Republic. We organised an architectural competition for the construction of the new building of the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery and the European Capital of Culture 2028, České Budějovice. Our team also led the international architectural competition Nový Hlavák for the reconstruction of the Main Railway Station in Prague, the construction of a new tram line, and the revitalisation of Vrchlického Park.
Our work also has a significant cultural footprint in the arts. For example, we helped collector Richard Fux sell 422 works by Alfons Mucha, an icon of the Art Nouveau style and an exceptionally important Czech painter and graphic artist, to the WOOD & Company group. It was the most comprehensive collection of this world-renowned artist. Our colleagues also assisted in the extensive promotion of the collection, represented the client in Japan in the preparation and organisation of immersive exhibitions, and secured an international portfolio of trademarks for Mucha’s work.
We assisted the City of Prague in the case of Mucha’s famous Slavic Epic.
Albatros Media publishing house is also our long-term client. We have been working with Albatros since its very first acquisition and have been involved in more than sixteen transactions over time, including the largest one ever – the acquisition of a 100% stake in Libristo Media, a major online book store focused on foreign-language literature. We are delighted that as legal advisors we can support the development of an area that has a major impact on education, creativity and the cultural development of society as a whole.
