Artificial intelligence, automation, and digitalization are reshaping the business landscape. At HAVEL & PARTNERS, we aim to play a key role in this transformation. That’s why we continuously innovate, push boundaries, and lead in technology and AI implementation while helping our clients navigate these changes as well.

We set the trends, not just follow them.

At HAVEL & PARTNERS, we understand that the legal and advisory professions must respond swiftly to the rapid evolution of technology and artificial intelligence. Our clients expect speed, precision, and added value.

We have the largest specialised technology and AI team in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is a team of nine partners and more than 45 lawyers and advisors. This strength allows us to deliver the most complex projects spanning all legal, tax, and regulatory areas. We assist tech giants, international investors, financial institutions, public authorities, as well as smaller IT firms, startups, and visionary founders.

“We approach technology with enthusiasm, context, and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs. They appreciate that we speak their language, not only legally but also technologically. We assist them in setting up and implementing IT projects, from the first concept through development and commercialization to implementation and maintenance. We can build the legal framework for software development, cloud services, licensing agreements, copyright protection, or vendor lock solutions. We stand by our clients in public procurement processes and before competition authorities, whether for public IT contracts or commercial projects,” said partner Robert Nešpůrek.

At the forefront

However, our work doesn’t stop at traditional IT law. Increasingly, we address regulated sectors such as healthcare, banking, and fintech. We help set up compliance frameworks in areas such as cybersecurity, data protection, and consumer law. And when new technologies emerge, such as blockchain, cryptocurrencies, the Internet of Things, and generative AI, we’re at the forefront, working with clients to find new opportunities and secure legal frameworks.

Our strong know-how also powers our transactional advisory, where we advise investors, start-ups, and tech founders. “Every year, we handle dozens of tech transactions – from billion-crown acquisitions to startup investments. We combine legal, tax, and business perspectives, enabling clients to build projects that are both strategically and financially sustainable,” added Robert Nešpůrek.

We also actively support the digitalization of business and public administration. We advise companies on how to transition to fully digital processes, implement electronic signatures, and set up secure data archiving. We also help shape legislation – such as the Act on the Right to Digital Services and the BankID Act—giving our clients first-hand, up-to-date and practical know-how.

The future? It’s already here

“Our philosophy is simple: we see technology not just as a tool, but as an opportunity to do things smarter and faster, not only for client assignments but within our own firm,” explained Robert Nešpůrek. According to him, the foundation lies in constant market monitoring and ongoing dialogue with international lawyers who have already paved many innovative paths before us.

Artificial intelligence and automation are part of our daily practice, from research and case law analysis to database management, client communication, and internal processes. We even develop our own legaltech applications. Our secure in-house AI platform includes tools for AI chat, translations, research, text review, and automatic transcription of scans or audio recordings – now indispensable for most of our lawyers in their everyday work.

Our team has also created WAIR, an application capable of generating highly accurate legal research, particularly in civil and criminal law. We use automated add-ons to produce faster, more consistent, and higher-quality legal texts. Everything, from case management and access rights to time tracking, capacity planning, and invoicing, can be handled in one place, fully online. “All of this saves us time, which we can dedicate to our clients and to further developing our lawyers,” Nešpůrek emphasized.

Security first

Technology is an integral part of our firm’s strategic management. We are modernizing our IT infrastructure and strengthening our resilience against cyber threats – working closely with our internal team and an external Security Operations Centre (SOC).

We organize internal AI workshops, digital breakfasts, and training sessions, always looking ahead. We have developed a comprehensive technology strategy that aligns IT operations, innovations in advisory services, and the firm’s business objectives. We have a system of pilot projects and testing, and by a special long-term internal program we actively support all “digital talents” within the firm.

To keep pace with innovations, we created the position of Legal Technologist more than two years ago, focusing on legal digitalization and in-house development, as well as the position of Head of Innovations, held by an expert with experience at IBM and Canon. The latter leads our technology projects, develops AI and innovation culture, and explores new ways technology can enhance and streamline our advisory services. We are expanding the team with data analysts and additional internal and external developers to ensure continuous progress.
