In the energy sector, HAVEL & PARTNERS as legal counsel assisted with one of the most important projects in the modern history of the Czech Republic – the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Dukovany. Since 2020, we have been representing the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade in the preparation and negotiation of contracts with ČEZ / EDU II on financial support by the state for the construction and operation of a new nuclear power plant throughout its lifetime. The construction cost alone exceeds CZK 400 billion.

Our team, led by partner Petr Kadlec, has participated and continues to participate in the process of state aid clearance by the European Commission, and in ensuring the protection of the security interests of the state in the process leading to the execution of the EPC contract with South Korea’s KHNP. We continue to work on the project in connection with the planned expansion of the new nuclear power plant by another unit.

The construction of the new nuclear power plant at Dukovany is a project that will fundamentally influence the shape of the Czech energy sector for several generations to come. Its aim is to ensure the Czech Republic’s energy self-sufficiency even after the coal-fired power plants are decommissioned.
